Brownfield Redevelopment: Your Guide

Close-up of a rusty vintage car front.

Brownfield properties are fallow or underutilized sites that are not utilized to their fullest potential due to actual or perceived contamination issues. Federal and state governments have acknowledged that leaving such properties idle imposes burdens on society's infrastructure, necessitating the development of greenfields—areas where prior development has yet to take place. Many brownfield properties are strategically located near urban areas, and repurposing these sites can help alleviate demands on community infrastructure, such as highway traffic, among others.

We take pride in being leaders in counseling, advising, and implementing various brownfield projects. Our firm's expertise has contributed to the successful redevelopment of a wide array of brownfield properties, ranging from large industrial and milling operations to smaller gas station sites. We actively engage in brownfield initiatives, including respective purchaser agreements, expedited corrective action programs, and risk-based corrective action requirements. Additionally, we participate in numerous grant programs aimed at funding the redevelopment of brownfield projects. Our ongoing monitoring of regulatory developments positions us uniquely to provide effective environmental legal advice and implement successful brownfield programs. Are you considering the development of a potentially contaminated property? Developing brownfields can indeed be challenging. Don't let frustration set in—seek the expert legal assistance you need.
